We are hiring a Naval Architect for a permanent opportunity with Swiftships in Morgan City, LA**This position will perform the following work:Understand and review hull, deckhouse and appendages design and drawings.Understand and review weight estimate, trim & stability and seakeeping reportsProvide motion engineering support, as neededPrepare designs, specifications, estimates, and drawings for construction, modification, and repair to the structure, general arrangements, and outfitting for ferry vessels. This may include machinery, piping, and ventilation systems.Coordinate closely with Port Engineers, Project Engineers, Vessel Masters, and Staff Chief Engineers.Review and check consultant and contractor drawings, specifications, and estimates for technical quality and contractual compliance; recommend adjustments and corrective measures to ensure satisfactory product or service.Lead other professional staff and provide liaison with consultant staff and contractors as required to accomplish assigned projects.Oversee staff of designers in developing designs for the preservation, improvement, repair, and renovation of client vessels.Conduct structural analysis of vessel modifications and repairs to ensure vessel safety and life cycle mare maintained.Review structural and arrangement drawings developed by design staff and ensure compliance with ABS High Speed Craft Rules.Conduct stability analysis of vessels, vessel modifications, and/or vessel damage to assess the vessel/passenger safety and regulatory compliance of the ferry fleet.An ideal candidate for this position will have:Fluency with ABS Rules.Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the State of Louisiana as a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer or able to obtain such a certification within six (6) month. PE registration as a Mechanical Engineer is acceptable provided the individual has an appropriate degree of experience in the marine field working with vessel design, operation, and maintenance.Five (5) years of professional experience in the marine engineering or naval architectural field performing vessel structures or systems design, or as a shipyard project inspector (except as noted above for a Mechanical Engineer).Familiarity with the application of Computer Aided Design (CAD) standards and the use of AutoCAD and Solid Works or Ship ConstructorAbility to conduct ship checks on both operational vessels and those that are undergoing new construction, maintenance, preservations, and repair in a shipyard.Proficiency in the use of the MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point. * Effective writing and talking skills.
